Visitors come for the music and are captivated by the history, stories and Southern hospitality

CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI–JANUARY 2026–In Clarksdale, Mississippi, every season holds a reason to celebrate and there’s no better way to experience this distinctive Mississippi Delta town than to visit during one of its iconic festivals. Located in Coahoma County, Clarksdale is just 70 miles south of Memphis and is where U.S. Highways 61 and 49 intersect. Fittingly, these “Blues Highways,” which are celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2026, create a crossroads in a town where live Blues music can be enjoyed every day. A Mississippi Blues Trail marker for THE CROSSROADS AT HWY. 61 & 49 will be unveiled at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Crossroads in Clarksdale.

Local festivals celebrate that music, which is such a part of Clarksdale’s identity, as well as other parts of its history and heritage. Visitors, many of whom come to be entertained by the music, find they are also intrigued by the history, captivated by the stories and enchanted by the local Southern hospitality they find here. And, of course, from Delta hot tamales to classic soul food to famed Mississippi barbecue, they love the food. Each festival has a character of its own, but the spirit of Clarksdale itself takes center stage in welcoming visitors all year long.

The Clarksdale Film & Music Festival celebration is January 23-25, 2026. Headquartered at Stone Pony’s Tack Room (226 Delta Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-624-7669), a pop-up theater adjacent to the downtown pizza joint, the event features a curated collection of music documentaries, Mississippi movies, showings of live blues performances and more. From first-hand accounts to dramas based on life and lore, the stories of these films paint an amazing picture of Delta Blues music history and the lives of many of its famed musicians. This town has a film history of its own and movie buffs will recognize Clarksdale as the setting for popular Crossroads movie, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026. More recently, Ryan Coogler’s blockbuster film Sinners was set in Clarksdale.

The popular Juke Joint Festival is scheduled for April 8-12, 2026. The event has been described as “half Blues festival, half small-town fair” and it’s all about the Delta. Approximately 100 performers take to stages and venues throughout the weekend, entertaining visitors from around the world. More than a dozen venues host performances during the festival. Lesser known gems like the Clarksdale Sound Stage (313 Issaquena Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614) recording studio and the Messenger Pool Hall (133 Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-902-2015) add to the variety of popular performance venues like Cat Head Delta Blues and Folk Art (252 Delta Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-624-5992) and Hambone Art and Music (111 East Second Street, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-403-8810). Of Course, the Delta Blues Museum (#1 Blues Alley, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-627-6820) takes part. It is internationally acclaimed as a showcase of the history and significance of the Blues in this region. It is filled with memorabilia, photographs, recordings and more, telling the stories of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Charlie Musselwhite and other legends.

The Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival, celebrating its 38th year, is a three-day festival held at the Delta Blues Museum Outdoor Stage (1 Blues Alley, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614) on August 7-9, 2026. This is their 38th festival. There are over a dozen festivals each year. You can see the most up-to-date festival listing a VisitClarksdale.com.

Clarksdale carries the mantle of its Blues history all year long, as live Blues music can be heard every day at one of its venues around town. Bad Apple Blues Club (349 Issaquena Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-624-1201), Red’s (398 Sunflower Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-627-3166) and Ground Zero Blues Club (387 Delta Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-621-9009) are just a few of the favorite spots for live performances that prove the Blues is something to be experienced, not just heard.

The 34th Annual Mississippi Delta Tennessee Williams Festival will be celebrated October 15-17, 2026. Clarksdale was the boyhood home of the famed American playwright, so celebrating one of its own is a natural here. It is said that many characters who came to life in Williams’ works are based on the people he knew as a child. His life and works are honored at Clarksville’s Tennessee Williams Rectory Museum (106 Sharkey Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 646-465-1578) at the site of church where his grandfather served as rector. The festival includes cocktail events, keynote presentations, museum tours, Clarksdale tours and more.

Clarksdale is home to more a dozen festivals each year. The most up-to-date festival listings can be found at VisitClarksdale.com.

If you go

In October of 2025, Clarksdale celebrated the opening of the Riverside Hotel Interpretive Center (615 Sunflower Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-634-9163) at the site of the famed hotel, which is also part of the region’s music history. The center is being dubbed a Living Blues & Civil Rights Museum inside the historic Riverside Hotel. The building was originally the Clarksdale Colored Hospital and after more than two decades it became known as a safe place for Black musicians on the “Chitlin’ Circuit” to stay, when it opened as a hotel. The Riverside Hotel was the only Clarksdale hotel ever listed in the “Green Book,” a travel guide for African American motorists published from 1936 to 1966. The hotel, which has been closed for renovations, is reopening for overnight guests in 2026.

Clarksdale is home to many one-of-a-kind lodging options that will add to any Delta experience. Boutique downtown hotels, historic motels and rural shacks are all options here. Travelers Hotel (212 Third Street, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-483-0693) is a trendy 20-room hotel with a mission to provide a home for art and artists, as well as travelers. Clarksdale also has individual rentals and lofts, designed using the character and culture of the original buildings and their surroundings. The Clark House Inn (211 Clark Street, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-621-1632) and the Lofts at the Five & Dime (211 Yazoo Avenue, Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 888-510-9604) are located in iconic Clarksdale buildings. Just outside of town, the Shack Up Inn’s (001 Commissary Circle Clarksdale, Mississippi 38614; 662-624-8329), rural setting offers rustic shacks that surround an original cotton gin.

Santa sightings, Mardi Gras mayhem and seafood savoring highlight a few of the events visitors can enjoy, all with coastal Georgia small-town flare

ST. MARYS, GEORGIA–NOVEMBER 2025–On Georgia’s Southern coast, St. Marys is the epitome of small-town charm surrounding a centerpiece of waterfront beauty. Community spirit and coastal character are strong here and celebrations of each bring a diverse mix of events throughout the year. From Mardi Gras frolicking to seafood tasting to Christmas caroling, the calendar is filled with ways to celebrate in St. Marys.

This year, the Christmas season will light up the streets and parks, as well as the eyes of excited youngsters. The celebrations begin the evening of Tuesday, December 2, with St. Marys Annual White Lighting Processional Parade. This free, fun night starts with a walking procession just after dusk that winds through town toward the waterfront. Carolers, bands and dancers entertain as Santa and Mrs. Claus make their way to the giant Christmas tree at St. Marys Waterfront Park (100 West St. Marys Street, St. Marys, Georgia 31558). The tree lighting will be followed by time to visit and get a photo with Santa.

The park is also the location for the Christmas in the Park celebration on Saturday, December 6, at noon. Festivities begin with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Clause, who will hand out stockings full of goodies to all the girls and boys. The celebration continues until 3:30 p.m. and includes Christmas-themed carnival games, free refreshments and photo opportunities with Christmas characters.

Set Sail with Santa Lighted Boat Parade takes place on Saturday, December 13. Locals and visitors can gather to view the boat parade from the Waterfront Park or anywhere along the waterfront. The Lighting of the Tinsel Trail is planned for 6:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park and this is also the night for the Christmas Tour of Homes. It’s a great night to celebrate the season and stroll through downtown restaurants and businesses, sharing holiday cheer.

The new year brings even more ways to celebrate in 2026. The good times roll in St. Marys and nearby Kingsland as they celebrate the Mardi Gras season. And the Mardi Gras spirit isn’t confined to events. St. Marys hosts a citywide Mardi Gras window and porch decorating contest, encouraging residents and businesses to showcase their creativity and festive flair. The festivities begin in Kingsland with the two-day K-BAY Mardi Gras Festival, February 6 and 7. The festival includes live music Friday, and a full day of activities on Saturday that culminates with a rousing concert performance by a chart-topping musician.

St. Marys’ family friendly Mardi Gras celebrations begin with the St. Marys Mardi Gras Jubilee at the St. Marys Waterfront Park on Sunday, February 15. The St. Marys Mardi Gras Jubilee, held from 1 to 4 p.m. at Waterfront Park, is a delight for visitors of all ages. There is a Kids Court featuring a Mardi Gras mask-making station, face painting and a slate of fun games, along with activities in the St. Marys Pirates Buccaneer Fun Zone. Parents will enjoy the entertainment from a lively DJ pumping up the energy all afternoon. And, of course, there is King Cake, along with goodies from a variety of food trucks. Tuesday, the 17th, Mardi Gras Day, brings Fat Tuesday Fest to downtown St. Marys. As the sun sets, this illuminated parade and party in the park begins. The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a parade that lights up the streets, starting at Church Street and ending at the waterfront park. The parade is followed by a concert in the park, as the flashy fun continues.

In July, the St. Marys Independence Day Festival begins with a parade and concludes with fireworks over the St. Marys River. The day also includes a 5K and 10K Run, arts and crafts vendors and entertainment throughout the day at the St. Marys Waterfront Park. The small-town fun includes a watermelon eating and seed spitting contest.

Fall brings the St. Marys Seafood Festival, to be held on October 3, 2026. This day of family fun features a 10 a.m. parade, a Kids Fun Zone, arts and crafts vendors and an afternoon of free concerts. Of course, the food is the highlight of this celebration of the harvests from local waters. Restaurants, food trucks and the Kiwanis Club all have tasty seafood along with other selections, as well. The festival is held along the riverfront in St. Marys’ historic district, with its small-town atmosphere and idyllic setting.

St. Marys loves to celebrate its culture and its characters all year long. On the 2nd Saturday of each month from April through September there’s a free Music in the Park Series at St. Marys Waterfront Park. The series brings locals and visitors out to enjoy free concerts and the fare of local food trucks. Throughout the year, performances by St. Marys Little Theatre (954-290-9873) and Saltwater Performing Arts (912-510-9700) bring stories, many filled with local lore, to life. And a walk with Molly’s Old South Walking Tours (904-735-8243) invites visitors to explore the streets and hear the stories of fugitives, murder, mayhem and more, that is all a part of St. Marys rich history.

Where to stay

St. Marys has a host of independent lodging options, each with a personality of its own.

At the historic Riverview Hotel (105 Osborne Street, St. Marys, Georgia 31558; 912-882-3242), there’s a veranda overlooking the ferry dock and St. Marys River.

There are bed and breakfast homes like the Spencer House Inn (200 Osborne Street, St. Marys, Georgia 31558; 912-882-1872), built in 1872 and the Goodbread House Inn (209 Osborne Street, St. Marys, Georgia 31558; 912-882-7490), circa 1870.

There are also a mix of vacation rental homes, including Borne 605 (605 Osborne Street, St. Marys, Georgia 31558; 912-674-1632), that honor the unique character and history of St. Marys. Located in the heart of downtown, Borne 605 offers the vibrancy and convenience of urban living with design inspiration taken from Cumberland Island.

Live performances and yearly musical events spark creativity in this vibrant art-filled North Georgia city

WOODSTOCK, GEORGIA—FEBRUARY 2026—Located only 30 minutes northwest of Atlanta, Woodstock offers a vibrant arts scene with music as one of its highlights. On any day of the week, visitors will discover live music at the city’s many performance venues, restaurants and brewery stages. Festivals and musical events occur year-round as well. Come for the vibrant downtown full of boutique shopping, culinary delights, outdoor adventure and other artistic attractions, but don’t miss the exciting music scene that is Woodstock.

Year-round music and performing art venues

There are numerous music and performance venues to choose from in Woodstock, so there’s constantly something for everyone. For instance, MadLife Stage & Studios brings in live music from local musicians to national touring artists every night of the week—plus some comedy shows too. The venue includes a full restaurant and bar, outdoor patio and a separate indoor music room. And, as the name suggests, recording artists come here to tape their latest creations, which means you’ll never know who might show up in downtown Woodstock.

Pure Taqueria hosts DJ Nights every weekend on their rooftop bar, making it a great venue for dancing under the stars while overlooking the night lights of downtown Woodstock. Almost every weekend, visitors will discover live music—not to mention craft brews—under the city’s landmark elm tree in Reformation Brewery’s expansive backyard.

For a more mellow vibe, Wine Down Wednesdays at Adair Park always features a local singer-songwriter performing on the terrace.

Recurring annual musical events

Woodstock, like most of the Atlanta metropolitan area, enjoys a mild climate. Even at the apex of summer, nights at this elevation can be comfortable and relaxing. So naturally, outdoor music spaces are a must.

The Woodstock Summer Concert Series welcomes a diverse variety of performers each summer, from iconic original artists to energetic tribute acts. The free amphitheater concerts under the summer stars occur every second Saturday from May through September. Parking is available nearby, but free shuttles also run to and from the event from three locations.

The 2026 concert season promises an extraordinary mix of iconic anthems, award-winning artists and crowd-pleasing tributes set against the heart of downtown Woodstock. On Saturday, May 9th, Black Jacket Symphony returns to the Northside Hospital Cherokee Amphitheater to open the 2026 season presenting Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet and other hits. On June 13th, Grammy, ACM, CMA and CMT award-winning country star Carly Pearce takes the stage to share her authentic storytelling and powerhouse vocals. At the third concert in the series on July 11th, legendary R&B and funk powerhouse Midnight Star will captivate downtown Woodstock with their signature blend of infectious grooves and soulful melodies. On August 8th, the Pop 2000 Tour with Chris Kirkpatrick of NSYNC, O-Town and LFO will bring you right back to the early 2000s. For the final show of the season on September 12th, electrifying Elton John and Billy Joel tribute band Face 2 Face will pay homage to the two iconic piano legends. Another outdoor venue in downtown Woodstock is the Woodstock Arts Event Green, a place to witness outstanding arts performances in a variety of genres, including the organization’s Lantern Series, which consists of different genres, backgrounds and ideologies in hopes of bringing the community together to find a literal and figurative common ground. The organization also engages an extensive theatre program that includes musical theater.

Arts, crafts, food, music and community combine for a legendary autumn event in this coastal Georgia town

KINGSLAND AND CAMDEN COUNTY, GEORGIA–OCTOBER 2025–Coastal Georgia’s Kingsland may be a small town but it’s big on traditions. This year on Friday and Saturday, November 21-22, the 42nd anniversary of the Kingsland Catfish Festival takes over the historic downtown streets. It’s an annual tradition that has been gathering locals and visitors every fall and now stretches into its fifth decade!

There’s no admission fee to the popular Kingsland Catfish Festival that routinely attracts 15,000. This annual event not only serves up fresh catfish dishes but locally caught seafood and other Southern favorites, as well as beer and wine. More than 200 vendor booths will be selling arts and crafts and there will be a special children’s amusement area.

Entertainment consists of a Saturday parade through town and live music both days. Country music star Craig Campbell headlines the musical lineup, performing hits such as “Outta My Head,” “Family Man” and “Keep Them Kisses Comin.’” Other bands performing over the weekend include Str8up and Saltwater Gypseas.

New this year is a Friday night street party. Kingsland closes down the downtown streets allowing festivalgoers to enjoy arts, crafts, food and live music during Friday evening festival hours.

Naturally, the star of the show is the tasty catfish. The Kingsland Lion’s Club will be serving fried catfish dinners Friday night during festival hours and all day Saturday. Sides include French fries or Cajun grits.

It’s no wonder the Southeast Tourism Society has named the Kingsland Catfish Festival a “Top 20 Event” four times and the American Bus Association rewarded the event with a “Top 100 Event in North America” nod three times! Visit historic Kingland and its annual Catfish Festival and you’ll see why this coastal Georgia town has a reputation for being a family-friendly, fun-loving destination.

Holiday lights stay up through February 17, 2025; New Year’s Eve, Fasching and other events continue through the winter

HELEN, GEORGIA—NOVEMBER 2024—A tiny town so magical and photogenic that two Lifetime Christmas movies have been filmed here. A top destination for lights, festivities and fun where the holiday spirit is extended into February. That’s Alpine Helen, Georgia, about an hour and a half north of Atlanta in the Northeast Georgia mountains.

From the day after Thanksgiving through February 17, 2025, this picturesque Bavarian village is dressed up and illuminated every night. Visitors come from all over to see the festive shop windows and streets, savor authentic German beer and cuisine and to buy handcrafted and imported Christmas tree ornaments all year long. Winter temperatures range from 60 degrees during the day to a low of 20 degrees at night, and the town’s specialty retailers and restaurants stay open on the late side, so visitors can continue to enjoy days and evenings at this time of year.

Here are just a few of the events happening in Helen from New Years through February 2025:

Dropping of the Edelweiss New Year’s Eve Celebration – December 31, 2024

Some towns drop a possum, potato or a giant grape. Alpine Helen, a storybook-perfect Bavarian village in the North Georgia mountains, celebrates the Dropping of the Edelweiss. Once found only in the most remote, rockiest areas of the Alps, this fuzzy white star-petaled flower once was plucked by suitors (“I’d climb the highest mountain for you”) and is a symbol of courage and devotion in Switzerland, Alpine Germany and Austria.

On December 31, 2024, ring in the New Year with music, food, fun, party hats, dancing and the annual Dropping of the Edelweiss at the Helen Festhalle from 8 p.m. to midnight. Dance or sway to live music, including a noted Polka band with other popular dance music interspersed. Celebrate with hors d’oeuvres, party favors and a midnight champagne toast. The Festhalle bar will be serving beer and wine for purchase. Family Friendly; kids under age 6 free admission. Helen Festhalle, 1074 Edelweiss Strasse, Helen, Georgia 30545; 706-878-1908

Fasching Celebration (German Mardi Gras) February 7-8, 15 and February 22 , 2025

Fasching is the German and Austrian celebration of Mardi Gras. Helen is such a hospitality town that it created an extended celebration on the weekends before Lent. The weekend of February 7-8, join the Hüttengaudi (a fun-filled evening of partying) starting Friday at noon with a pub crawl and scavenger hunt. You’ll have plenty of time to pace yourself and complete it, as it ends on Saturday at 6 p.m at the Hofbrau Haus Biergarten where the winner will be drawn. The Fasching celebrations continue on February 15 with a Mardi Gras costumed party from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Helen Festhalle at 1074 Edelweiss Strasse hosted by the Helen Chamber of Commerce. For more information call 706-878-1908 or visit HelenChamber.com

The Fasching celebrations conclude on February 22. At 1 p.m. join in or watch a walking parade through downtown with Schnapps shot stops on the way to the Chattahoochee River, where the brave and hearty jump or wade in for a tubing parade. (Schnapps shot registration: $20 for adults 21+; I.D. required, register from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. sharp at the Helendorf River Inn & Conference Center, 33 Munich Strasse, Helen, GA 30545) Afterward, join the party hosted by the Faschingsverein of Helen organization at the Helendorf River Inn & Conference Center. $5 per person, BYOB, doors open at 6 p.m. and music is from 7-11 p.m.

WinterFest Arts Tour / Sautee Nacoochee Arts Festival – February 15-16, 2025

WinterFest Arts Tour is a weekend festival that presents more than 175 artists at four locations over the two days leading up to Presidents Day. The sites are the Helen Arts & Heritage Center, Hardman Farm Historic Site, the Sautee Nacoochee Center and Unicoi State Park & Lodge. The dates and times at all four locations are Saturday, February 18 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday, February 19, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. so there is no rush to see everything in one day and the amenities and attractions at each site can be savored. At each location, local and regional artists will display, sell and demonstrate their skills and bring to life new and exciting pieces. Visitors may purchase raffle tickets to win gift baskets contributed by participating venues. Food service or vendors are present at some sites.

There is no charge for WinterFest at each venue, but a multipart ticket may be purchased to enter to win one of three Grand Prizes valued at $250 and above. One ticket is $10 or get a book of five tickets for $40. To be eligible to win, the ticket must be stamped at each location. Tickets may be purchased online or at any of the four locations.
