Outdoor adventures are in season any time of year
EXPLORE NORTHWEST FLORIDA—MARCH 2020–Visitors to Northwest Florida have a host of adventures to choose from when enjoying the region. As Interstate 10 traverses through Northwest Florida, it leads travelers through a myriad of possibilities for spending time immersed in the natural wonders and outdoor adventures of the region .
Different seasons mean different opportunities to get the most out of a visit to Northwest Florida, but fishing is fantastic all year long. The diversity here is hard to believe. From freshwater rivers to inland bays to the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, freshwater or saltwater, inshore or offshore, there is always a line to cast and fish story to tell.
While many choose summertime to escape to Northwest Florida Beaches, insiders know they are beautiful all year, as well. Milder temperatures and fewer crowds make any spring or fall beach stroll a relaxing interlude. And winter brings the best sunrises and sunsets over the waters of the gulf. It also brings the best shelling of the year, a highlight for many. Of course, summer brings the sizzle and adventurers find lots of ways to get their beach fix, from sunbathing to watersports, it’s all here.
Off-the-beach water adventures are abundant in Northwest Florida, as well. This is a paddler’s paradise, with lakes, creeks and rivers to explore and a host of state parks and recreational areas offering access, the paddling options are seemingly endless. Endless, also, is the view into the clear blue waters of the area’s natural springs, popular with divers from throughout the world. Vortex Springs, Morrison Springs, Blue Springs Recreational Area and Merritt’s Mill Pond each offer diversity and an outstanding opportunity to explore the world below the surface.
Back on land, there are scenic trails with stunning views. From the sandy trails of Grayton Beach State Park (357 Main Park Rd, Santa Rosa Beach Florida 32459) to the High Bluffs Coastal Trail at Tate’s Hill State Forest (US Hwy 98, near Carrabelle, Florida) the variety of habitats and vistas are amazing. There are more than two dozen designated hiking destinations across the region and hikers of every ability can find a trail to explore.
Visitors find lodging options are abundant and varied, from beachfront luxury to a campsite under the stars and more information about things to see and do is also available from the region’s visitor centers. The locals are happy to welcome visitors and to share all the ways to explore Northwest Florida’s outdoor adventures.
