Windsor Hotel: The icon of downtown Americus celebrated its 125th anniversary in June 2017. Originally built in 1892 to draw in visitors traveling south, the Victorian hotel has hosted guests like Al Capone and President Carter. It was donated to the city in 1978 and reopened in 1991. Locals love to hang out at Floyd’s Pub and the hotel even has rumors of spirit sightings!
Koinonia Farm: The successful pecan farm celebrates 75 years in March 2018 with the Clarence Jordan Symposium. Founded in 1942 as an intentional farming community, people of all backgrounds have worked together here for decades. They offer visitor tours and lunch.
Souther Field: The military airport where Charles Lindbergh made his first solo flight celebrates 100 years in 2018. Established for the cadet pilot school, the facility was purchased by Sumter County and became a civil airport in the 1940s. Today, it’s a part of the South Georgia Technical College campus.
National Prisoner of War Museum: The museum at Andersonville will celebrate its 20th anniversary in April 2018. Because of the military prison’s grisly history, the museum was put here to document the stories of American prisoners of war from our nation’s founding to recent conflicts.
