Media invited to experience first-hand, April 4
Join in celebrating the return of Ride the Rails, benefiting Tri-State Model Railroaders and the Historic Mineral Bluff Depot, May 20-21 and September 18-19, with a trip for the media on Tuesday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m. The ride itself, departing from L&N Depot, 150 Railroad Avenue, Mineral Bluff, Georgia 30559, takes about 40 minutes with opportunities for photos available upon return to the Mineral Bluff Depot. The restored depot itself has its own architectural, as well as historic, story. Inside the depot is the large HO scale model railroad representing the Old Line of the L&N Railroad passing through Ellijay, Blue Ridge and Copperhill and the branch through Mineral Bluff to Murphy, NC.
For over 10 years, until 2016, Tri-State Model Railroaders conducted this annual fundraiser to help facilitate construction of the model railroad and provide maintenance and improvement dollars for the historic Mineral Bluff Depot. This annual fundraiser consisted of a five-mile, round-trip ride on historic railroad motor cars, offered to the public for a suggested donation. In 2015, the ownership of the railroad track changed hands and was unable to operate until this year.
